Chapter 1: The door that wasn't there

She had already decided to leave.

That was the strange part-everything was packed, the key lay on the table, and yet she kept standing in the middle of the room like someone waiting for permission.

That's when she noticed the door.

It was narrow, wooden, slightly open. It hadn't been there yesterday. She was sure of that, because yesterday she had leaned against that exact wall and slid down until she was sitting on the floor, wondering how many goodbyes a person was allowed to survive.

The door didn't creak. It didn't glow.

It just waited.
